The underlying technology and purpose of the Swagway is similar to a Segway; the end product, however, is very different.
Humanity has been trying to revolutionize walking forever in some form or the other, but these efforts have been catalyzed by technology in the last few decades. There have been many different ideas about how we can change the way we travel distances on foot to date, but few have really made a mark. This is where the Swagway comes in — a device that intends to accomplish what the Segway couldn’t, and the reason it might manage to do just that is in the name itself: Swagway X1 Hands-free Self Balancing SmartBoard.
The underlying technology and purpose of the Swagway is similar to a Segway; the end product, however, is very different. It has the same sort of balancing capabilities that were present in the Segway but in a much more intuitive and stylish way. It is also much less cumbersome. The biggest advantage it has is that it still feels like a mode of personal transport and not a vehicle.
If you know you want a Swagway, see my post on a recommended Swagway Amazon vendor that appears to have good customer service and supplies in stock.

As important as functionality is, it is undeniable that the design of a product is equally important, if not more. This is one of the areas which Segway totally failed to capture. It looked bad and worse, it made the user look bad. We can’t have that, now can we? The Swagway X1 Hands-free Self Balancing Smart Board is an aesthetically pleasing device. It looks very futuristic, plus the lights and sounds make it really stand out. It comes in a variety of colors and you can easily pick one that suits your lifestyle. We like the black one best because it seems the most utilitarian and thus general-purpose color. The white one, on the other hand, has a very nice professional look. Overall, the design is something that elicits conversation, not criticism.
As with any vehicle, it was extremely important to us that the Swagway X1 Hands-free Self Balancing Smart Board should be something that is comfortable to use. It is very intimidating in the beginning mostly because you’re not supposed to hold on to anything. This feels wrong for the first few minutes since you’re basically on a moving platform but don’t have anything supporting your balance. However, after 5 minutes of riding, you’ll realize how natural it feels.
The pedals are right below your feet and thus controlling the device is very easy. The speed isn’t too much so you don’t really feel like falling off plus the anti-slip coating on the pedals provides you much-needed friction. Most of the people who tried one ended up being able to ride properly within the first few minutes. It was also very fun since it’s sort of new technology and it felt great to be able to move so fast on foot.
When talking about usage, the distance covered on a single charge is a very important factor. One thing which a lot of people mistakenly criticize such products for is them not holding enough of a charge. Problem is, they need to realize that these devices are not meant to replace bicycles. This is a device meant to replace walking not riding. The charge depletion depends upon the terrain and the weight of the person on the device thus it is hard to give an exact figure of how much it would run but it was more than enough to work for a whole day in a single day. The charging doesn’t take too long either; you’ll be fully charged and ready to roll within an hour.
Is it a solution looking for a problem?
The biggest thing you need to keep in mind before considering a purchase is whether it solves an actual problem for you. Walking is tiresome and most of us work and live in places that have been made to minimize walking. If you are a gadget enthusiast then this product is definitely for you. However, if that is not the case, then we’d say you need to think about how helpful this will actually be for you or for most other people.
Pros and Cons
Following are some of the pros and cons of the Swagway X1 Hands-free Self Balancing Smart Board:
- Great speed and battery
- Very intuitive to use
- Great design
- A bit bulky at 22 lbs
- Limited usage for many people
- Still feels a bit gimmicky
After reading about and trying the many different replacement products for walking, we can finally say that this is a product that might actually succeed, at least more than the Segway ever did. It is telling that it’s becoming more common to see youngsters use these devices as they’re finally being considered hip.
